Gordon – (cloud nine) January 6, 2022
My uncle (long dead now) was an Air Force Fighter pilot during WWII and he had his own private airplane after the war. In the 50’s, he bought a Mooney airplane and said it went high but not over ‘cloud 9’ like a jet fighter of the period. He said it wasn’t until then we could reach the tops of storms

Around the world? Nobody but America…
Ve – (over and out) January 3, 2022
This article could made it more clear that ‘over and out
is only used in movies, and never* in real life.
(* well… because of the great influence from movies, I actually _have_ heard it being used live. But never without someone else sniggering.)

I’m going to assume by “unlikely”, the author was trying to allude to the ambiguity surrounding the phrase’s origins, and that the Bible wouldn’t be where most people would have thought it came from? That would make more sense than outright stating that the biblical origins are probably inaccurate, given the authors understanding that there was no mention of the idiom prior to the Bible. Perhaps “unexpected” or “unconventional” would have been a better word to use.
Ilyas – (bottom line) December 29, 2021
I think that the bottom line has a meaning of profit, or hasn’t it?
Patty Whatty – (rain check) December 25, 2021
I don’t think taking a rain check on a social invitation is appropriate. Unlike rain checks for a sporting event or sale item at a retailer ….there will be another opportunity….but there is no guarantee the social event will occur again. I think it disrespects the host(ess).

What the bell have you done to Ben 10 this version of the cartoon is complete garbage . My kids used to love watching Ben 10 but now can’t stand it and want to get rid of all their Ben 10 toys. I don’t know if your are trying to be PC or trying to keep the woke brigade happy but I wish you we just stop and go back to the original Ben 10 and bin this new garbage you are calling Ben 10.
Nah – (keep your chin up) December 19, 2021
“Keep your chin up” means to walk with confidence and pride through the world. It’s directly related to your posture and body language as you face outward to present to observers in passing situations.
Linguistically; it was a natural precedent. If you’re observed walking through your life with your eyes facing downward, people will observe you as weak, subservient, and lacking character.
This idiom evolved naturally through masculine posturing and body language. Take the words literally. Try it yourself, you will notice the difference
