Origin

The phrase is thought to originate from Paul’s first letter to the Corinthians, where in Chapter 11, verse 15, he says that if a woman has long hair, it is a glory unto her. In Latin, the root word “glory” means honor or praise and also refers to God’s presence. This has been presented in religious icons and paintings as an aura or halo around the head. This has been referred to as the Shekinah or, at times, the Shekinah glory.
